An item is an object that can be worn, used or sold to merchants. Items can be found in containers, or after looting dead enemies' bodies, given by non-player characters or bought from stores.
Inventory[]
The inventory screen can be opened by clicking the icon on the lower right side of the screen, or by pressing I.
Each party member has their own separate inventory, and can hold as much as their strength allows. Clicking and dragging an item to their portraits is all it takes to transfer an item to someone else's inventory.
In Planescape: Torment, rings, charms, bracelets and scrolls do not stack, which can make inventory management a pain. Qwinn's Tweak Pack provides a component that can be installed to allow multiple instances of the same item to be stacked in the inventory, taking up only one slot instead of several.
Identification[]
At first glance, it isn't always apparent what an item does or what its properties are. Characters with a high Lore skill might be able to identify certain objects immediately, but in other cases the item might need to be identified either at a shop for 100 coppers, or with the use of the Identify spell.
Qwinn's Tweak Pack has an optional component that, if installed, identifies all items in the game automatically by setting their lore requirement to 0.
Equipment[]
Equipment is any item that can be used to boost defenses, alter stats, or improve abilities.
See weapons and accessory for more information about those specific categories.
Armor[]
Unlike many RPGs, not many characters in Planescape: Torment are able to wear armor. Characters gain protection and bonuses from tattoos and accessories instead. The few party members who can wear armor are Fall-from-Grace, Annah, Dak'kon, and Vhailor.

There are two types of keys in Planescape: Torment, regular lock keys, and portal keys. Portal keys can be anything at all, so it's wise to check this list before throwing any out:

Miscellaneous items are items that do not cleanly fit into other categories. They may be utterly useless, or provide a useful effect. See the Miscellaneous Item (PS:T) page for more details.
