Hey I started a wikia for Numenera, the table-top rpg, since I think there is a lot to it that isn't in the video game. I'm a complete noob when it comes to wikis though, so if you want it you can have it.
I was planning on adding the maps for all the areas, I have them all sitting on my hard drive. Problem is, that map feature is extremely buggy (often it doesn't let me upload a map at all) and isn't supported by Wikia anymore. See Help:Wikia_Maps and the support thread where that was discovered on the Community site.
So yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that, to see if someone comes up with an alternative. It's a shame, that maps feature was pretty awesome. If all else fails I could annotate them and add them as images, but for that, I'd need more time than I have at the moment.
Yeah, I'll upload them as images in the near future.
I use Infinity Explorer to extract the images (maps, icons etc) from PS:T. NearInfinity is another useful tool, it has a better search feature to actually find the files/info you want, but it's not great for extracting images.
It's been a while. I'm sorry for my sudden disappearance a month ago (if it was even noticed, heh). My computer died and I have (for the moment) lost my files.
You know your To Do list? I just wanted to mention that Trias' page can probably be crossed off of it - I wrote a bunch for it a while back. It's possible I missed something, so please go ahead and check stuff if you want. I don't want to cross him off your list myself.
Ravel's page is also listed on that To Do list. I have a bunch of stuff written for it and was in the middle of finishing it up when everything died. I had also been working on stuff for fleshing out PS:T location pages. I'm not sure if I'll get any of that stuff back or not, but I figure I'd mention in case you were currently working on anything for those so we can save ourselves some time by preventing us both from working on the same thing(s).
I'd like to start helping out here again if I can. I just wanted to say hey since it's been a long time and mention the Trias thing.
On the To Do list it's mentioned certain gameplay mechanics/combat stat stuff should be explained somewhere. I was wondering if you don't think maybe there could be one page for all of those things, in a way? If there's an individual page for each there might not actually be that much to put on them - there could be a general "Combat mechanics (PS:T)" or "Combat Stats (PS:T)" page (or something like that - just an idea).
There's a page on here called "Torment, D&D, and the history of game mechanics" - have you seen it? (I'm not going to link it so any iffy linking business can be avoided, just in case.) I was wondering if you had an opinion on it. The information is very general (and anything applicable to Torment stuff/stats could be moved to appropriate pages) and it's also creating redlinks. Dunno.
You know the quotes template? The type of dash used is not technically correct for quote attributions. It's an en dash (–). Should be an em dash (—). Obviously not very important, but whatever.
This is also not worth mentioning, but I will anyway: on some stub pages the stub tag is placed above the infobox template. This pushes the infobox down. If it's placed below the infobox template it lines up at the top alongside the infobox without pushing it down. Do you think this is worth having the bot fix (if it can)? Probably wouldn't even be worth the trouble, honestly, but hey whatever.
Sorry for forgetting to cross Dak'kon's Zerth Blade off the To Do list, by the way. I noticed you got to it.
Hi there! Thanks for your edits, you're doing a great job.
Yes, we need a page to explain combat mechanics and stats like THAC0 and AC etc, but yeah it would be great if it's all on one page. Right now it's sort of vaguely explained on the Game terminology page, but it's lost in a sea of other words and acronyms. "Combat Mechanics (PS:T)" sounds like a pretty essential page to have.
I saw that history of game mechanics page, and didn't quite know what to make of it. I didn't want to delete the work of a contributor though, and some people might find the information on it useful. But I agree that info could definitely be moved to appropriate pages, and the redlinks removed for sure.
Done, thanks for pointing the em dash out.
The stub line really doesn't bother me, especially since the goal is for it to be ultimately removed from the page. If it really bugs you I can put the bot to work on it though.
No prob for the To Do list thing, it took me 2 seconds, and gave me the opportunity to show I'm still around, checking the wiki every once in a while, even though I'm not editing these days :P
Hey, for the page for Goncalves' Tailory, Goncalves' name is spelled wrong. I can't change page titles, so could you take care of it? (Also, concerning differences in how people use possessive "s" with names that end in "s" -- the game itself seems to prefer the method I used above, but I have no idea what the shop is called in the game.) Sorry for the trouble, and thanks.
Some people add an apostrophe and then another "s" -- don't know why. I guess that's considered "okay" now, since people kinda suck at using apostrophes when it comes to "s" now, for whatever reason. (So "Goncalves's" -- bleh.) Anyway, thanks!
Hey, crud. Hope you're still here -- I am wondering about something I just noticed.
You know the weapon Celestial Fire? It can have variants - there was already a page for the axe variant so I figured I'd add pages for the other variants. I wish I'd checked all of the items before creating anything because just noticed that they all have the same image (apparently) and the same descriptions (minus one line mentioning the weapon type), but everything else is the same except the stats. So adding pages for the variants seems... pointless. Do you think maybe info on them should just be added to the Celestial Fire page? Anything linking to a variant can be redirected to that page, then, and the page can maybe have a table or something for the stats. Otherwise there will just be a bunch of pages with the same exact stuff aside from some numbers. Thoughts?
Hey. On Strahan Runeshadow's page it mentions that Rodger Bumpass is credited as the voice of Strahan, but that he didn't actually do that. He's just been written in as the voice actor for both Strahan and Fhjull Forked-Tongue. I'm not sure what's right or not, but I don't remember Fhjull having a voice (can't remember). Regardless, either the note is wrong or the voice actor shouldn't be listed (right? I don't know). Sorry for the trouble.
For Strahan, I'm absolutely 100% sure he doesn't have any voiced lines in the Mausoleum, I just checked. So unless that character appears elsewhere in the game (I don't think so, but I'm not completely sure) then the note is correct. And yeah, in that case, you're right, Roger Bumpass shouldn't be listed in the infobox for Strahan.
Hey, some pages have recently been added for T:ToN. I was wondering if a consensus was ever reached about adding stuff on Numenera? I recall there being a forum post about it, but don't know if anything was established regarding where that info should be. If it shouldn't be added maybe the user adding new pages could be told about it so they can save their time (or help out where the information is better off)? I don't want to seem like a jerk about it and don't want to tell them to stop if it's fine here. Just figured I'd ask your opinion.
As an aside (unrelated to T:ToN), every time I try to post a comment now wikia eats it. I click "post" and it just... vanishes. Gone. It's incredibly frustrating. Is it possibly some kind of anti-spam filter or something?
Hey there. Nope, no consensus for the TToN info, so it looks like we're covering both games. The other "official" TToN wiki looks like it's at a standstill anyway, with no one editing it. The more we add here, the more this wiki becomes an authority on the subject, so there's no downside, no good info will be deleted from here.
Have you fixed the Flash problem? That seems annoying.
Nah. I'll just use a different browser for comments. Since T:ToN info is okay here, I made a list of some categories that might eventually be needed (there are PS:T counterparts for all of these):
Shops (or equivalent - the shops category isn't listed as Shops (PS:T), so if a T:ToN category is ever created that will have to be changed)
Quest Items and Miscellaneous Items
Races and Creatures (there are separate categories for these for PS:T, though there is very minor overlap; I have no idea what kind of creatures exist in the Numenera world, so it's possible neither of these would be right)
Quests (not entirely sure about this one - mostly it just lists characters that are involved in quests)
At some point, something might be needed for bugs/secrets/exploits relevant to T:ToN. New pages, or perhaps the existing pages can be edited with deliberate formatting to distinguish between the games.
None of this is really needed right now - most won't be needed until way down the line, and some might not be needed at all. It's nice to have some general outline for these things, though.
One last thing - do you think an "appearances" row should be added to the item infobox template? It might not be needed, but I thought of it so I might as well ask.
Yeah, it's nice to have a list. :) I'll add it to the To Do page and we'll get to it when we get some pages going. T:ToN looks like it has actual quest titles, unlike PS:T, so the quest category will be even more relevant for that game.
The items in T:ToN seem like they'll be quite differrnt, so a seperate item template for that game might be called for.
I'll change the shop category, thanks for pointing that out.
Feel free to "bug" me for stuff like this, that's what I'm here for ;)
I just made a category for this: Category:Articles without images. It'll probably be easier just to add a page to that category to flag it as missing an icon or image. I'll check it regularly and add the needed images.
Hey. I was wondering if you think it would be okay to set the bot to delete extra space at the tops of pages. It's not noticeable for most pages, but for pages with descriptions or quotes at the top it adds a blank area at the top. It doesn't hurt anything to remove it, and will make those pages look better. Is that something that could be done?
Hey there. The bot is more of a search and replace thing, so I'm worried that if I tell it to do something like that it'll stupidly delete all the spacing on the page. But there are more advanced features that I haven't looked too deeply into yet. I'll try to see if I can figure out a way to do it.
Thanks, that'll be great! There is some pretty awesome concept art for the new game that could work well as a spotlight image, like this one or this one. The caption could simply be the game's tagline: "What does one life matter?", or some variation of that.
Whatever you guys decide will be great, I'm sure :)
The fiendish eye of Kalem'Darr has two spellings in-game. On its description page, the title/header section spells it as "The Fiendish Eye of Kalem'Dar" - only one R. The description itself spells it "Kalem'Darr" multiple times - two Rs. I have written out everything to create the page and was going to create it as "Kalem'Darr," but I don't want to create the page only for you to have to fix it later. Do you have any opinion on this?
Also concerning the eye - the description for it is incredibly long. Long enough that it's a little ridiculous-looking. Is that a problem, or no?
I think your instinct is right, I'd go with the two R version (it seems like the one R version is a typo in the game).
I've encountered some items like that that have ridiculous descriptions, and what I did in those cases is picked a paragraph that made sense on its own, and just put that. (I don't like copying too much verbatim from the game, even if it's a quote, because of copyright. Fair Use only applies if the quotes are small enough, and used to illustrate or explain something) If it's a story it might be a good idea to summarize and reword that in a separate section, but it might not be necessary.
By the way, do you use NearInfinity to view the game files and descriptions? I'm not saying you need to or should, just curious if you're copying descriptions by hand. If you are, I don't mind if you want to lighten your load and leave the descriptions to me, since I can copy-paste them directly from the game, instead of typing them out...
I've been copying things by hand, like a time-wasting moron. (Whoops!) Mostly I've only copied things that I already had in my inventory after loading up a save to check something in the game, but I will save my time if that's something you'd like to handle instead.
Yep, I noticed it too. It's weird and unnecessary and it borders on copyright infringement. Not sure what the guy who created it was thinking, but I hate to delete other people's contributions... Especially since it's supposed to be something creative. So I haven't done anything about it yet. As you cen tell by my lack of contributions these days, I'm on the road atm. I'll try to get in touch with the author of the post when I get back, and we'll see if he responds. Otherwise we can probably delete it.
I'm posting this here because I don't want to create *another* topic on your page (sorry). I was recently replaying to get info for the Fortress of Regrets page. While playing I tried to use the Negative Token and only got two uses out of it. On a separate occasion while trying different things I used it again and only got *one* use from it. The page says it can be used 17 times before consumption. I tried adding a comment to the page (comments section, not the actual page) but got an error message every time I tried.
Is there some way of checking the item more concretely to see how many times it can be used? It wasn't consistent for me, so maybe there's some random chance to it.
Hmm interesting. The 17 charges I got from the game files. Do you use mods? I do, so maybe it's 17 charges with mods, random without? I'll check in the game files again when I'm at my conputer, I'm on the road atm, so that'll take a little while though.
Wonder why the comment section was bugging out.. Feel free to create a Notes section or something on the page to alert people about this.
Wikia is being weird in not letting me post comments, so hopefully this one works. I wish I could edit my previous comment - I thought of something that might be relevant to the token use.
The token's description says that "the more powerful the shadow, the less likely it will obey your command." Maybe the token counts as being "used" more than once when it's used on higher-level shadows, since they're more powerful and it takes more to hold them? I have no idea - just a thought. The 17 uses might me the most you can get if it's used on low-level shadows?
Deionarra's Wedding Ring and Deionarra's Wedding Ring (Upgraded) are almost the same exact page. If I go ahead and add the upgraded stats to the original page (as well as how to upgrade the ring) do you think the other page could be deleted? (Those are the only differences on the pages.)
Hey, I just realized something about the above post of mine. It is now the only thing still linking to the (now non-existant) page for Deionarra's upgraded ring. It's included on the "wanted pages" list now because I linked it. Is there some way to fix that? Is it possible for you to edit comments people have made to just delete the brackets? I didn't even think of that happening when I asked for your opinion - I'm sorry about that.
Awesome - sorry about that. There's one other post I've found that links something that way, too. It's for "Scoop the Digger." Should I let you know if I find anything else like this that I can't edit myself?
I'm sorry for leaving you so many messages, but I just noticed something.
Under the "wanted pages" list one of the redlinks you removed from a thread is still there ( http://torment.wikia.com/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Muck_the_Digger_Dump_Truck ). Will a deleted thread end up actually deleted after a certain amount of time? If not, should the comment itself just be edited? (Can it be? I know you can edit some user comments, obviously, but I don't know if maybe you can't depending on the type of user.)
