Planescape: Torment is undeniably a rich, unique game that'll leave the player yearning for more... provided the plentiful bugs and glitches could be fixed and it could be run on modern systems. Thankfully, there are several wonderful mods to fix all that.
This is a guide on how to get the game running like a charm, restore content intended to be in the game but cut at the last minute, and enhance the experience with much needed convenience mods.
List of mods in this guide[]
- Widescreen Mod by The Bigg, which allows Infinity Engine games to be played at greater, previously unsupported resolutions, like those of widescreen monitors.
- GhostDog's PS:T UI mod, which tweaks and repositions the UI to work seamlessly with the widescreen mod.
- PS:T Ultimate WeiDU Fixpack by Qwinn, which fixes a plethora of bugs present in the original game, and corrects spelling, grammar and punctuation throughout the dialogue files.
- PS:T Unfinished Business by Qwinn, which restores cut content from the game.
- Qwinn's PS:T Tweak Pack, which tweaks the game for convenience: allowing items to stack in the inventory to save space, accelerating banter between companions, disabling the battle music etc.
- Aqrit's DDrawFix, which removes any graphical glitches created by modern graphics cards with old games like Planescape: Torment.
Installing the game[]
Obviously, before installing any mods, the first thing to do is to install Planescape: Torment.
It is highly recommended to install the game in a different directory than C:\Program Files\
because that directory is locked by Windows for security reasons, making it more difficult to alter the files installed there. This may create issues later when installing the mods or saving games. Installing the game in another directory, like C:\Games\
or on a different drive (D:\
) is recommended.
Players who own the Gog.com version of the game can simply launch the installer, follow the instructions there, wait until the game is installed and skip to installing the first mod.
For users attempting to install the game from old disks on a newer system, it is a little more complicated, but entirely feasible.

Installing the mods[]
Installing any mods in the middle of a game may create unpredictable problems with existing saves. It is advisable to start a brand new game after installing the mods.
Most mods come in compressed .rar
or .7z
files. These files can be opened with the free 7-Zip utility.
The Bigg's Widescreen Mod[]
This widescreen mod is highly recommended for players who do not wish to play their game at 640x480 resolution on a modern monitor. Contrary to what the name suggests, this mod doesn't only work for widescreen monitors, it allows for any resolution greater than 800x600.
The mod can be downloaded here: The Bigg's Widescreen Mod.
- Installation
- Extract the contents of the
.zip
file directly into your Planescape: Torment install directory (the directory whereTorment.exe
is located) with the help of 7-Zip or another extraction utility. - Run
setup-widescreen.exe
from that directory. - Answer a few simple questions (language, readme, install component) as instructed by typing the letter corresponding to your choice and
Enter
. - The X-coordinates represent how many pixels wide the game should be, and the Y-coordinates represent how many pixels high it should be. Choosing the largest values your monitor supports is recommended, as it will increase the sharpness of the image. The current resolution of your monitor can be looked up in the computer's Control Panel. Some common resolutions are:
"Square" Monitors | Widescreen Monitors | ||
---|---|---|---|
X | Y | X | Y |
800 | 600 | 1280 | 800 |
1024 | 768 | 1440 | 900 |
1280 | 960 | 1680 | 1050 |
1280 | 1024 | 1920 | 1080 |
- Type "
Y
" to update any savegames - this is important, saves that were not updated will not work with this mod. As a side-effect, updated saves will display once again the fog-of-war over previously explored areas. It is strongly recommended to backup any saves before doing this, as unexpected problems may arise. - If you are planning to play Planescape: Torment on other machines with different resolutions, type "
Y
", otherwise, type "N
".
Any issues with the widescreen mod can be addressed on the Gibberlings Forum.
- Installing the next mod is required to fix the graphics and User Interface at this new resolution.
GhostDog's PS:T UI Mod[]
The UI mod is a must-have for anyone using the above Widescreen mod. Ghostdog's UI mod fixes all the graphical effects, menu screens, text, videos, that were knocked out of place, blown up to pixely hell, and not properly scaled when the resolution was adjusted.
The mod can be downloaded here: GhostDog's PS:T UI Mod.
- Installation
- Extract
Ghostdogs_PST_UI_mod_v2.2.7z
directly into your Planescape: Torment install directory. - Run
Setup-GhostDog's-PST-UI.exe
. - Answer the question about the readme as you wish, then type "
I
" andEnter
to install the mod. - The mod will detect what resolution The Bigg's Widescreen mod is set to and will install the appropriate UI elements.
- The program will then ask whether to increase font size, offering several options:
- 20% bigger fonts
- 40% bigger fonts
- 80% bigger fonts
- 120% bigger fonts
Font sizes can be hard to gauge. The best solution is simply to try one, and come back to change it if it isn't satisfactory. Ghostdog has provided a comparison image to help determine which font size might work best. The font options can be changed at any time by launching the Setup again, answering "No change" to the installation question and changing the answer to the font options question.
Any issues with the UI mod can be taken up at the Spellhold Studios Forum.
- It is advisable to launch Planescape: Torment by double-clicking
torment.exe
at this point, to check if everything is working properly with the installed mods so far.

again.
Any issues with the PS:T Ultimate Fixpack should be addressed at the Spellhold Studios Forum.
Qwinn's PS:T Unfinished Business[]
Planescape: Torment has a lot of content in its game files that was cut from the release of the game by time and money constraints. Items, conversations, even entire quests that were intended to be in the game can now be restored, thanks to Qwinn's Unfinished Business patch.
