Skeletons are first level undead. They are considered to be slightly less powerful than zombies, which puts them on the bottom of the undead hierarchy. In simplest terms, they are skeletal humanoid remains of individuals that are held together and animated by magic (often by an evil cleric or mage, or by higher level undead). They are usually devoid of sentience. In this capacity, they are encountered in the Mortuary, where the Dustman use them as free labor. They can also be encountered, in a much more aggressive state, in the Mausoleum.

Combat[]

As a rule, due to being made entirely of bone, they are resistant to edged weapons, as these glance off of the smooth surface of the bones. Blunt weapons, such as clubs or hammers, work best for attacking them. Weapons do not have to be enchanted to hit a skeleton. Damage inflicted by skeletons is determined by the type of weapon used by the skeleton in question.

Dead Nations Skeletons[]

The skeletons in the Dead Nations are exceptional for two reasons. First of all, as they are individuals who have refused to die, they possess the sentience they had in life. Another reason that Dead Nations skeletons are different is that they are at the top of the social hierarchy, which is a sharp contrast to being at the bottom of the list of undead. This is due, in part, to the fact that they are the oldest denizens of the Dead Nations. Perhaps an even greater reason is the fact that their leader, Hargrimm the Bleak, is the only one allowed to conference with the Silent King, leader of the Drowned Nations.
