Zombies are corpses that have been raised from the dead. They are found in great numbers in Sigil's Mortuary, raised by Dustmen necromancers as workers to perform menial jobs. All the zombies in the Mortuary are people that signed a Dead Contract, selling their bodies to be resurrected upon their death in exchange for coppers. Many people in the Hive are desperate enough to sign such a document.
Physical characteristics[]
Unlike skeletons, zombies retain flesh of their bodies, which makes them tougher, more durable, and less prone to falling apart. But it can also be a disadvantage since rigor mortis sets in, hampering their movements, making them much slower and clumsier. Zombies may be sluggish, but when they connect, their blows are crippling.
A zombie's flesh is preserved as long as possible with embalming fluid and stitching. But eventually, the skin, muscles and tendons rot away and the ancient zombies are sent to be repurposed by the dustmen as skeleton workers.
Zombies are easily trained to perform basic tasks, and thought to be mindless. Perhaps that is true for most, but some apparently retain a bit of their consciousness, as revealed by the Nameless One's ability Stories-Bones-Tell and the priest spell Speak with Dead.
Combat stats[]
Zombies are relatively weak creatures that can easily be dispatched.
